Bhubaneswar: Irate locals set milk truck on fire as minor boy dies in accident

Bhubaneswar: Acute tension prevailed in Balianta area, on the outskirt of Bhubaneswar City, as a group of irate locals set a milk truck on fire after a minor boy was mowed down by it today.

Sources informed that a 10-year-old boy was crushed to death by the speeding milk truck while he was crossing the road at Siphon Chaka of Balianta today.

As soon as the news of the boy’s death due to accident spread hundreds of locals gathered on the spot of accident immediately and caught hold of the driver of the truck, said the sources adding that out of anger, they trashed him black and blue. Their anger did not subside with it. They vandalized the truck and set it on fire on the middle of the road.

On being informed, Balianta police arrived at the spot and tried to pacify the angry locals by holding discussions with them and assuring to investigate the incident, however, the people were so furious over the death of the minor boy that they also allegedly thrashed the cops. They also allegedly manhandled the individuals who were taking visuals of the incident.

Tension still continued to prevail in the area as the locals demanded adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased boy and stringent action against the truck driver.
