Odisha: To organize the popular street food “gupchup” in Bhubaneswar, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is preparing to launch a dedicated “gupchup market.” The plan aims to organize street vending in the city and provide a designated and safe space for gupchup vendors.
According to sources, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has selected a roadside location in front of the Regional Institute of Education for this proposed market. This location will be developed as a vending zone, where only gupchup vendors will be permitted.
Beautification work has already been carried out at the selected site, including laying paver blocks and installing decorative lighting. The development aims not only to organize the area but also to create an attractive and convenient food zone for customers.
In the initial phase, approximately 30 to 40 gupchup vendors will be accommodated in this new market. All these vendors will be provided with systematically designated spaces to reduce roadside congestion and traffic congestion.
Under the BMC’s plan, vendors will also be provided with specially designed trolleys. These trolleys have already been purchased and are being prepared for use in this new vending zone. These trolleys will help vendors conduct business in a uniform and clean manner.
Under this plan, roadside vendors selling ‘Gup Chup’ in Shaheed Nagar, Nicco Park, and surrounding areas are expected to be gradually relocated to this new market. This is expected to improve traffic flow and promote cleanliness in the city.
The city administration believes that this initiative will not only provide permanent and safe space for street vendors but will also provide a better and more organized form to the street food culture in the city. Additionally, this step will boost the local economy.
The proposed Gupchup Bazaar is generating excitement among locals, as it will be the first organized street food establishment of its kind in Bhubaneswar. The administration is expected to announce its formal launch soon.
