Bhubaneswar: The EOW has arrested Bhubaneswar-based journalist Surjeet Kumar Dhall on fraud charges, reliable reports said on Saturday. The journalist was a resident of Gymkhana Palm Height Apartment near SUM Hospital in Bhubaneswar. He will be produced before the Designated Court under OPID, Cuttack today i.e. 06.01.2024. A case was registered against accused Surjit Kumar Dhall, owner of a local web news portal and a newspaper, on a written allegation of Kalinga Keshari Rath’s real estate business. The journalist has been arrested on charges of fraud of Rs 1 crore.
Extortion/fraud of money is also done by using forged documents and pretending to be an influential person with big contacts. As found, accused Surjit Dhall, who is the owner of local web news portal and newspaper, gave the impression to the informant that he is a rich person in the field of media and also pretended to be an influential person with big contacts. And deceives many people.
Documents like fake BDA approval etc. He induced the informant to give him approximately Rs 1 crore. Which was paid through account and in cash. After learning about the fraud committed by the accused, the informant asked him to repay the amount taken and the cars. The victim informant was also threatened by the accused that he would use his influence to destroy her business/interests. The inspection of the matter is going on.
