Madhya Pradesh: Ten contemporary artists from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) are showcasing their artworks for the first time at Bharat Bhavan in the city, attracting art enthusiasts.
The six-day group exhibition, which began on Tuesday, features more than 45 paintings, ranging from modern social themes to traditional techniques and emotional experiences. A highlight of the exhibition is the collection of paintings by Sachin Gautam, who has used the 100-year-old wash technique, pioneered in India by the renowned painter Abanindranath Tagore, for the first time.
He explained, “In this technique, after applying the colors to the drawing paper, it is soaked in water for about 30 minutes, which removes excess color, dust, and chemicals. The paper is then dried in the sun, re-wet, and given the final touches with a brush as needed.” Due to this intricate process, each painting takes approximately 25 days to complete.
