Bhogi Festival Celebrations Were Held Grandly At Warangal Fort

The Sankranthi festival has begun within the walls of the historical fort. As the snow fell, the hills of Warangal were warmed by the glow of bonfires. The city residents celebrated the Bhogi festival on Wednesday with a message of not just burning old things but also getting rid of impurities in the mind.

In many parts of Warangal, women lit candles in front of their houses early in the morning and decorated huge muggis. Especially in the villages of Qila Warangal, Shivanagar, Chintal, Puppalagutta, Adarshnagar, Dupakunta, Bollikunta, Gadipalli, as well as in the old towns of the city, the noise of gobbemmas was particularly noticeable. It is a special occasion to worship nature by sprinkling new grains on the gobbemmas decorated with turmeric and saffron.

A modern addition to tradition

Tradition has also spread in the apartment culture of the city. All the apartment dwellers lit bonfires collectively and wished each other. Introducing the old customs to the present generation, the moments spent amidst the hymns of Haridas were entertaining. It is special that instead of throwing harmful items like plastic and tires into the fire, ‘environmentally friendly Bhogi’ is celebrated with only sticks and pieces of wood. Everyone in the slums, regardless of caste and religion, came together and embraced each other near the bonfires. The markets of Warangal city are already crowded for the Makar Sankranti (big festival) to be held tomorrow (Thursday). The streets of Orugallu are also buzzing with the smell of baked goods.
