Bhiwandi: The Shanti Nagar Police carried out a major operation as part of an ongoing drive against narcotics in Bhiwandi. Police raided a flat in a posh residential complex in the city and recovered a large quantity of cannabis (ganja). A total of 20.760 kg of cannabis, concealed in two suitcases, was seized during the operation. The estimated value of the seized contraband in the illegal international market is approximately ₹6.32 lakh.
During the raid, the police arrested a woman and her male accomplice at the scene. They are accused of illegally stockpiling the banned substance and planning to sell it. Following their arrest, both accused were produced before the court, which remanded them to police custody until June 24.
The Shanti Nagar Police team described this action as part of a larger anti-narcotics campaign. According to the police, the operation was launched on Saturday based on a tip-off from a reliable informant. The information indicated that a large quantity of cannabis was stored in a flat on Kalyan Road, in the Temghar Pada area of Arihant Complex, and preparations were underway for its distribution.
Acting on the information, the police immediately formed a special team and raided the specified location. The flat was situated on the fourth floor, where the police executed a planned raid. During the search, the police discovered two suitcases—one red and one blue. Upon opening them, a substantial amount of cannabis was found concealed inside.
The police detained Mintu Devi Kushwaha (40) and her associate Durga Shah (43) at the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest that both accused may have been involved in this illegal trade for a long time and that the consignment was stored for the purpose of distribution. However, the police are now working to determine the source of the contraband and identify the individuals who might be involved.
Officials stated that such operations will continue, and constant surveillance is being maintained to completely dismantle the drug network. The police added that the informant network is being strengthened to prevent such incidents in a timely manner.
Security and surveillance in the area have been tightened following this operation. The police are now examining the mobile records, contacts, and financial transactions of both accused individuals in order to expose the entire network.
