Bhadrachalam: A five-year-old girl died after a pen pierced her head and the surgery to remove the pen reportedly led to an infection. It is reported that while the girl, Riyanshika, was playing with a pen at home, she accidentally fell off the cot and the pen pierced her temporal region near her left ear. She was immediately rushed to the Government Regional Hospital in Bhadrachalam as she was bleeding profusely. She was later taken to a private hospital in Khammam where a neurosurgeon performed a surgery and removed the pen on Tuesday. However, she developed a brain infection after the surgery and died on Wednesday. Her father Manikant, who works as a mechanic in Bhadrachalam, broke down as he could not save his daughter even though he had spent over Rs 2 lakh. People from the neighbourhood gathered at the girl’s house to console Manikant and his wife Swaroopa, who were in a state of shock after losing their child.
