“The brand and logo will ensure trust and quality of the product. Business will improve and more revenue will be generated for farmers,” he said, adding that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil the brand and logo during the inauguration of the Republic Day flower show on Thursday.
Dr Prakash Sobarad, additional director of the horticulture department, said the idea of bringing a brand and logo is not just to market honey but also its products like soap.
He said the honey is collected from bees that depend on sapwood and wild blackberry trees in Uttara Kannada, Sirsi, Kumta, Kundapura and others as the honey has high medicinal properties.
We will use social media platforms and various methods to market products such as honey, jelly and beeswax soaps, Sobrada said.
Horticulture Department Secretary Shamla Iqbal said that due to the concessions given by the state government to promote beekeeping, more honey is being produced even in the plains.
He said that the department has developed the brand to popularize the honey of the state nationally and internationally, to provide high quality honey to the consumers and to provide suitable market and good price to the beekeepers.
