New Delhi. Gujarat Titans captain Shubhman Gill has been fined Rs 24 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in the match played against Chennai Super Kings on Friday. Gujarat Titans maintained a slow over rate for the second time in the current season, due to which a fine of Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee (whichever is less will be applicable) was imposed on the captain and other players including the impact player.
Gujarat Titans did not complete 20 overs of the innings on time in the 59th match of IPL 2024. This was the reason why Gujarat captain and players had to pay fine. The fine spoiled the victory of Gujarat Titans, who defeated five-time champions Chennai Super Kings by 35 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With this victory, Gujarat Titans kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.

Gill’s statement
After this victory, Gujarat Titans captain Gill said that we were left behind in terms of net run rate, not in terms of matches. “It becomes very easy when you have so many people supporting you,” he said. We had no target in mind, we took advantage of every over and opportunity that came our way.
He further said, “Sai and I have a good understanding, we understand each other very well. To be honest, at one time the target was 250 runs and we missed it. He bowled well in the last two-three overs, I felt that we were behind not in terms of the match but in terms of net run rate.
