Bajrang Dal and VHP protest near the India-Bangladesh border in Sribhumi, Assam

Guwahati: Protests over alleged attacks on minorities in Bangladesh intensified in Assam’s Sribhumi on Tuesday as the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) held a large rally near the India–Bangladesh border, officials said.

Hundreds of activists marched from AOC Point through key streets of Sribhumi town and assembled on the banks of the Kushiara River, close to the international boundary. The organisations said they organised the rally to protest the reported killing of Dipu Das in Bangladesh.

During the demonstration, protesters raised slogans against the Bangladeshi government and burned an effigy of Yunus, demanding justice for Dipu Das and an end to what they described as continued violence against minorities across the border.

Addressing the gathering, Bajrang Dal and VHP leaders condemned the alleged atrocities and called on Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of minority communities. They warned that protests would continue until accountability was fixed and violence stopped.

Police and civil administration personnel remained deployed in the area, particularly near the border, to ensure law and order. Officials said the protest passed off without any untoward incident, though tensions ran high.
