Awareness campaign on railway crossing safety in Chennai

Tamil Nadu: A special campaign was launched on Tuesday in the Southern Railway Zone to raise public awareness about the rules for safely crossing railway crossings. Organized as part of the Chennai Railway Safety Week, the railway administration urged people to follow all safety rules while crossing railway crossings to avoid accidents.
The Chennai Division organized an awareness vehicle campaign and pamphlet distribution program to mark the occasion. The campaign was flagged off from the Southern Railway Zonal Office premises. Divisional Railway Superintendent Ankur Chauhan, Additional Divisional Railway Superintendent I. Senthilkumar, and Senior Divisional Safety Officer M. Vasudevan were present.
Railway officials stated that the primary objective of this campaign is to encourage the public to exercise caution and follow the rules at railway crossings. They noted that many accidents occur due to negligence and ignorance, which can be largely prevented through awareness.
As part of the campaign, railway employees, scouts, school students, and others participated in an awareness walk between Pallavaram and Tambaram. Participants carried posters and banners with messages related to railway crossing safety, raising awareness among the public.
In addition, a large awareness rally was held on GST Road, attended by a large number of employees and officials from railway engineering, signaling, and other departments. During the rally, people were informed about the importance of following the established rules when crossing railway tracks.
Railway officials stated that due to the high speed of trains and sudden arrivals, there is always a risk of accidents at railway crossings. In such circumstances, ignoring safety rules can prove fatal. They appealed to people not to attempt to cross the tracks when the gates are closed and to always maintain a safe distance.
Pamphlets were distributed during the program, explaining in simple language how even minor negligence can lead to major accidents. The railway administration also stated that such awareness programs will continue to increase awareness of safe travel.
This campaign, conducted as part of the Chennai Railway Safety Week, brings an important message not only to railway employees but also to the general public that everyone has a responsibility towards railway safety.
