LAKHIMPUR: Mamatar Chith, a new Assamese feature film, is set to release across Assam on October 6. It was stated by Nirmal Das, the director of the movie, who hails from Barpeta, while addressing a press conference at the North Lakhimpur Press Club in Lakhimpur district. He informed that the movie is made by featuring the theme of Mamatar Chithi, a widely read and recited poem of Assamese literature written by noted literary figure Hem Baruah. “It is the first movie ever made in the Assamese language based on a poem. A heart-touching, beautiful romantic story and the miserable plights and afflictions of widowhood have been screened in the movie, wherein the audience will get to watch the sketch of pure Assamese culture and society,” Nirmal Das added. Popular actors like Gunjan Bhardwaz, Gitanjali Saikia, Chetana Das, Rina Borah, Bhargav Kataki, Biplab Borkakati, Kabindra Das, Hemanga Ray-Choudhury, Pallab Paban Borah, Mallika Sarmah, Biswajit Ojah, and child artiste Victor Arjun are acting in the movie. The cinematography and technical direction of the movie were conducted by Pradip Daimary, while editing was done by Pratim Khaond (Raja) of Mumbai. The background music of the movie was composed by Tarali Sarmah, while Zubeen Garg, Tarali Sarmah, Bhaskar Opsowell, and Sharmishtha Das worked as playback singers. The movie is produced by Debadib Das under the banner of ‘Mukha’. It was shot in the beautiful locations of the Barpeta district and Manas Park. Gitanjali Saikia, who acted as the protagonist of the movie, and co-actor Kabindra Das also addressed the press conference.
