Assam flood: Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Minister, assured help

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on the flood-like situation in the state due to heavy rains. Shah also assured the affected people of Assam that the National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force are working on a war footing, providing relief and rescuing victims. The Union minister also assured them that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to provide all possible assistance to the flood-hit state. “Heavy rains have led to a flood-like situation in Assam. Spoke to Assam CM Shri @himantabiswaJi about the current situation. NDRF and SDRF are working on a war footing, providing relief and rescuing victims. PM Shri @narendramodiJi stands firmly with the people of Assam and is committed to provide all possible assistance to the state in these challenging times,” Shah said in a post on ‘X’. The severe floods that have lashed Assam in the past one month have claimed several lives, caused massive damage to infrastructure, blocked roads, destroyed crops and killed livestock. The floods have rendered hundreds of people homeless and dislocated them. Over 24.2 lakh people in 30 districts across the state have been affected so far. Among the worst-hit districts is Dhubri, where 775,721 people have been affected. Agricultural land has also been damaged, with floodwaters submerging 63,490.97 hectares of crop area and affecting 3,518 villages under 112 revenue circles. Besides, at least 92 animals have died either by drowning or during treatment till Saturday. According to official data, a total of 95 animals have been rescued from Kaziranga National Park, Bokakhat
The other affected districts include Cachar, Kamrup, Hailakandi, Hojai, Dhubri, Nagaon, Morigaon, Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, South Salmara, Tinsukia, Charaideo, Barpeta, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Chirang, Majuli, Biswanath, Darang, Karbi Anglong West and Kamrup Metropolitan.
