BISWANATH CHARIALI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the golden jubilee celebrations of Purbajyoti Krishi Pam Nigam, an agriculture farm of Gohpur, on Wednesday. The celebrations are being organized with a three-day long programme at Bishnu Bora Kshetra of Purbajyoti Sports Association. He was welcomed by 50 drummers and dancers.
Purbajyoti Krishi Pam Nigam of Gohpur is the only agricultural farm established under the Assam Agricultural Farm Corporation Act in 1974.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Since our government took over, the work to resolve the land problem of the indigenous people of Assam has been taken up through Mission Bashundhara for the first time since Independence. The Assam Government received about 7.50 lakh applications related to land issues and it was able to resolve the problems. Meanwhile, this time too, about 13 lakh applications have already been received by Bashundhara 2.0.”
Sarma also assured to solve the land problem and distribute around 4,000 bigha land among the local people of the farm. He called for the remaining 1,000 bighas of land to be kept in the name of the farm or in the name of the government so that various development works can be undertaken there in the future.
The Chief Minister also said that for the first time, the government has taken various steps to ensure that development can be done through agriculture and hence, the government has taken up the work of purchasing farmers’ paddy. Similarly, the government will buy mustard cultivated by the farmers. He said a move has been taken to take up a large portion of land to grow other agricultural products like potato, pulse etc. so that the State can become independent in the agriculture sector.
He appealed to the people to buy the gamosa woven by Assamese weavers to make them economically stronger. The programme was attended by MLAs Ranjit Dutta and Utpal Borah, Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, Additional Deputy Commissioner and SDO (C) i/c, Biswanath Jay Sivani, Vice Chancellor of Madhavdev University Dibakar Ch Deka and others.
