Korba: More than 20 cattle of 12 farmers died due to lightning. While two shepherds grazing cattle some distance away from the spot narrowly escaped. Farmers had to suffer financial loss due to the death of cattle. The incident took place in village panchayat Kerakachhar, 20 km away from the district headquarters.
Most of the people living here earn their livelihood by farming. Therefore, the villagers have kept cows and bulls in their homes. It is being told that to graze these cattle, the villagers have kept two shepherds, who go to the forest with the cattle every day and bring them home in the evening after grazing. Like every day, the shepherds had gone to the forest to graze the cattle in the morning as well.
Suddenly the weather changed and it started drizzling with heavy thunder. Meanwhile, there was a strong thunder and the lightning fell on the cattle. In the incident, nine cows, seven bulls and four calves died on the spot, while some other cattle were scorched. As the incident took place at some distance from the spot, both the shepherds survived safely. They reached the village and informed about the incident. On receiving the information, the police also reached the spot and inspected it. The veterinary department was informed for postmortem.
