ITANAGAR: A four-day ‘108 EMT and pilot refresher training-cum-awareness programmeon emergency care’ was conducted for personnel serving in West Siang, East Siang, Lower Siang, Upper Siang, Leparada, Shi-Yomi, and Lower Dibang Valley districts.
The programme, held at Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH) in Pasighat (E/Siang) on 8-9 June, and at the zonal general hospital (ZGH) in Aalo (W/Siang) from 11-12 June, aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and preparedness of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and pilots serving under the 108 Emergency Response Service.
The programme was conducted by an EMLC team from GVK EMRI GHS.
Instructor Dr Toko Ben, in coordination with the emergency management executive, covered key topics such as basic life support, CPR, cardiac emergencies, stroke and seizure management, trauma care, snakebite management, infection prevention, patient assessment, safe transportation, and communication with the emergency response centre.
The participants also took part in hands-on practical sessions, including CPR demonstrations, airway management, trauma assessment, splinting techniques, patient handling, and emergency simulations designed to strengthen real-world emergency response capabilities.
The programme was attended by BPGH Medical Superintendent Dr Apum Basu, and ZGH Aalo Medical Superintendent Dr Karken Rina, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged the participants to continue enhancing their professional competencies.
