Arunachal: MLA demands immediate maintenance of ALB Road

BASAR: Local MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi urged the authority concerned to ensure immediate repair and maintenance of the damaged stretches of the Akajan-Likabali-Bam (ALB) road, particularly under Packages 2 and 3 falling within Leparada district jurisdiction.

Co-chairing a District Level Monitoring Committee meeting here in Leparada district on Wednesday, Dirchi, highlighting the deplorable condition of the ALB road, emphasised the urgency of restoration works.

In response, the authority concerned sought one month’s time to undertake maintenance works in the identified stretches.

The MLA further urged all executing departments to share master plans relating to major buildings and infrastructure projects with the appropriate district authorities prior to commencement of work. “This will ensure proper scrutiny, planning and execution,” she said, and directed that quality of work must not be compromised under any circumstances in the implementation of all developmental projects.

Emphasising the need for self-reliance and local economic growth, Dirchi stated that agriculture, horticulture, fisheries and allied sectors should be actively promoted in the district to strengthen self-sufficiency, reduce dependence on external supplies, and enhance livelihood opportunities and revenue generation for local entrepreneurs and farmers.

Dirchi further informed the house that a special surgery camp will be organised at Todak Basar District Hospital here, tentatively on 22 June, to be performed by renowned surgeon and former TRIHMS director Dr Moji Jini, along with other surgeons from AIIMS, New Delhi.

Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Himani Meena reviewed the departmental performance and offered suggestions to ensure effective implementation and better outcomes.

Reviewing the high pendency rate of applications under schemes such as DDSUY, ANKY, and ANBY at the bankers’ level, Meena expressed concern over such delays and advised the departmental heads concerned to designate a nodal officer for regular monitoring of pending applications.

She emphasised that a designated nodal officer can keep close coordination with banks and the beneficiaries, and help rectify deficiencies, reduce pendency, and ensure timely disbursement of loan and subsidy components to beneficiaries.

Appreciating the initiatives undertaken by the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission in promoting women’s empowerment through financial literacy and self-help groups (SHGs), the DC directed the district mission manager to identify and establish an emporium in Basar township on priority to showcase and market local handicrafts, traditional products, and indigenous items produced by women SHGs.

While reviewing the performance of the works departments, the DC emphasised that existing public assets and infrastructure should not be damaged during execution of new developmental works, particularly during earth-cutting activities.

Stressing the importance of systematic infrastructure development, the DC directed that building and infrastructure projects be routed through the town planning wing for proper planning, scrutiny and design, prior to execution.

Expressing concern over sanitation and cleanliness in the market areas, she observed that maintaining cleanliness is a collective responsibility of the shopkeepers as well as the department concerned. She instructed the UD&H executive engineer to “initiate penalties against non-compliant shopkeepers under relevant provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules.”

All heads of departments delivered presentations on the status of ongoing projects, schemes, and departmental activities during the meeting.
