ZIRO: The Lower Subansiri District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) has focused on strengthening local water infrastructure, forming specialized grassroots technical teams, and ensuring that rural water supply systems remain sustainable for generations to come.
The DWSM, in its strategic meeting held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of deputy commissioner and DWSM chairman Oli Perme, discussed a comprehensive agenda aimed at reinforcing the institutional framework and advancing rural sanitation initiatives.
A major milestone celebrated during the meeting was Lower Subansiri’s remarkable achievement under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). The district has officially attained 100 percent Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) coverage. This significant collaborative effort spans two blocks, 109 panchayats, 200 villages, and 271 habitations, bringing clean and reliable tap water directly to the homes of 5,740 rural families.
To ensure the uninterrupted supply of water, the DWSM formally constituted a 10-member District Technical Unit (DTU), comprising engineers, laboratory assistants, consultants, and operators. The unit will provide hands-on professional support, day-to-day oversight, and rigorous monitoring to maintain the efficiency and longevity of rural water supply systems.
Recognizing that a tap is only as reliable as its water source, the Source Finding Committee (SFC), under the chairmanship of the executive engineer of the water resources department, Ziro, outlined a strict mandate to identify and protect dependable, high-yield water sources.
The Mission also established a clear roadmap to extend coverage to newly emerged habitations, empower Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs), streamline revenue collection, and implement the “Jal Seva Ankalan” framework.
Key administrative officers and heads of departments were present at the meeting
