Appointment of Health Inspectors: Approval and order given to Tamil Nadu Government

Tamil Nadu: In a case involving the appointment of health inspectors, the Madras High Court has ordered the Tamil Nadu government to fill all but 47 vacant positions.
An examination was held to fill 1,400 health inspector positions in Tamil Nadu. The applications of 47 candidates who had completed postgraduate diplomas in health inspectorship from Gandhigram Rural University and Madurai Kamaraj University Educational Institute were rejected.
Hearing a case filed by applicants against this, a single judge of the High Court had ordered in January that if eligible applicants were included in the provisional selection list and met other qualifications, the selection process should be completed following the reservation system.
The Tamil Nadu Health Department and the Medical Services Selection Board had filed an appeal against this order. It was decided to keep the positions vacant for the 47 petitioners involved in the educational qualification issue. Therefore, it was stated that the other positions should be allowed to be filled. Justice R., who was hearing the case, A bench of Justices Suresh Kumar and N. Senthil Kumar issued an interim order to keep 47 posts of Health Inspector vacant and fill the remaining posts as per the 69 per cent reservation system and deferred the final hearing of the appeal case.
