Dharamshala-Dehra RTO directed to submit school bus safety report

The District Child Welfare Committee of Kangra has directed the Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) of Dharamshala and Dehra to strictly enforce the prescribed safety regulations and submit compliance reports within 15 days. District Child Welfare Committee Chairman Vikramjeet Sharma stated that the committee wrote to both RTOs after receiving information from various sources about overloading and non-compliance with safety regulations in school buses.

The committee has requested information on the steps being taken to ensure that school buses strictly adhere to the prescribed seating capacity and do not carry more students than the prescribed limit. It has also asked the RTOs to verify compliance with required safety regulations, including the installation of CCTV cameras in school buses and the deployment of a female attendant on buses carrying girls.

The committee has also requested compliance reports submitted by schools and documents demonstrating compliance with these safety requirements. Both RTOs have been asked to submit a detailed compliance report within 15 days.

Sharma stated that the committee is committed to protecting the rights of children and ensuring their safety. He stated that it is closely monitoring cases affecting the well-being and safety of children in Kangra district through various reporting channels and taking immediate action where necessary.

He appealed to the public to report cases of child abuse, neglect, or violation of rights to the District Child Welfare Committee at 01892-222184 or by emailing kangracwc@gmail.com to ensure timely assistance and necessary action.
