AP News: Special campaign to prevent seasonal diseases

Vijayawada. Vijayawada: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayan reviewed the preparations to deal with seasonal diseases like diarrhea, dengue, malaria etc. in view of the rainy season here on Friday. In a meeting with senior officials of his department, the minister asked to take measures to improve the drinking water supply system and strengthen the municipal corporations financially. Narayan directed the officials to launch special campaigns to prevent seasonal diseases. He asked the officials to stop the leakage in the water pipelines within 24 hours and ensure that the garbage accumulated in the drains is cleaned.

He said that so far no case of dengue has been reported in any municipality, but diarrhea has been reported from some areas. He said, “An amount of Rs 50 crore will be released soon to stop the leakage in the drinking water pipelines and remove garbage from canals and drains and improve the overall cleanliness situation.” He said that the TD government will try to restore the first and second phases of the Central Government’s Amrit Yojana. He said the previous government had diverted those funds and stalled the implementation.

“The YSRC government did not utilise the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank funds of Rs 5350 crore as the state did not have the funds to pay its share. The AAIB scheme was aimed at strengthening drinking water facilities in 50 per cent of municipalities. “Now we will launch a special drive to complete this scheme.”
