Antony Blinken will visit Egypt this week to accelerate ceasefire talks

Tel Aviv: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit Egypt this weekend and review the ongoing peace talks between Israel and Hamas. The US has already told Israel that it will not support any ground offensive in Rafah as it would affect the lives of a large number of civilians, including women and children. US President Joe Biden has already told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about his country’s stance regarding the Rafah operation in a direct telecall. Meanwhile, Mossad chief David Barnia, who is leading the Israeli delegation to Qatar for peace talks, returned to Tel Aviv on Tuesday night after Israel did not accede to several demands put forward by Hamas through mediator countries such as Qatar and Egypt. According to Israeli Defense Ministry sources, Prime Minister Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant have told the Israeli delegation in Doha to continue negotiations on Israeli terms and not agree to Hamas’s unreasonable demands. Antony Blinken’s visit to Egypt is important in this context and it remains to be seen how the Israeli side will agree to the terms and conditions of the ceasefire put forward by Hamas.
