Announcement of Boycott of MLA Elections: Former MP Ramdas

Tamil Nadu: The People’s Progress Party has announced that it will boycott the Puducherry Assembly elections.
In this regard, the party’s leader and former Lok Sabha member, Professor M. Ramadass, told reporters on Tuesday: “Local body elections in Puducherry have not been held since 2011. Consequently, the opportunity to elect 1,042 local government representatives has been deliberately denied. Furthermore, the elections are being stalled—even by the courts—on certain grounds. To address this, we approached the Madras High Court. The Court directed the Election Commission of India and the Puducherry government to consider our request and respond within two weeks. However, the Election Commission of India announced the Assembly elections even before that deadline had expired.”
“We believe that holding top-tier elections without establishing grassroots-level democracy is undemocratic. Therefore, we are boycotting the Assembly elections,” stated Professor Ramadass.
