The Liberation Tigers Party has announced that it will contest the elections independently on three seats in Puducherry.

Tamil Nadu: VVIP leader Thol. Thirumavalavan has announced that the ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu’ will contest independently in three seats in Puducherry.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, he said: “In the 2021 elections in Puducherry, the Congress party had reserved only the Ozhukarai general seat for the ‘Secular Progressive Alliance.’ We accepted this and contested the election so that the alliance would not face any crisis. However, we did not receive the cooperation of the other parties within the alliance. Nevertheless, we secured more than 6,000 votes.”
The ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu’ had sought three seats in the upcoming assembly elections. After a prolonged delay, the seat-sharing arrangement between the Congress party and the DMK was finalized only after the process of filing nominations had been completed.
The Congress party, which is contesting the highest number of seats within the alliance, has not put forward any proposal to allocate seats to the other constituent parties of the alliance. The DMK has proposed allocating one seat to the VVIP. However, even after the filing of nominations, it remains unclear which specific seat that would be.
The Congress party has also filed nominations in all those constituencies where the ‘Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu’ and the ‘Communist Party of India’ have filed their nominations.
Since the VVIP remains unaware of which specific seat it will be contesting, our party functionaries are being subjected to unnecessary stress.
Therefore, we have decided to contest independently in the three constituencies where the VVIP has currently filed nominations: Ussudu, Nettapakkam, and Ozhukarai. He added that in other constituencies where the party is not contesting, support will be extended to the candidates of the ‘Secular Progressive Alliance.’
