Tamil Nadu Tamil Nadu: Former BJP leader Annamalai has said that he will take a final decision on starting a political party only when the members of his new movement ‘We the Leaders’ reaches 50 lakh. He clarified that currently his focus is only on strengthening the movement and connecting more and more people.
After leaving BJP, Annamalai has started a new mass movement named ‘We the Leaders’, whose objective is said to be to bring change in the society. A membership campaign is being run for this movement through online medium, in which people are joining voluntarily.
On Wednesday, Annamalai shared a video on social media platforms giving information about the progress and future plans of this movement. He said that this initiative is not being imposed on anyone, rather people are joining it on their own will. According to him, this movement has been started with the aim of bringing positive change in the society.
He said that till now about 18 lakh people have joined this movement, which is a big achievement. Annamalai said that when the membership figure reaches 50 lakh, then opinion will be taken from the people associated with the movement whether it should be given a political form or not.
According to Annamalai, any kind of political decision will be taken only on the basis of public opinion. He stressed that at present the main objective of the movement is to strengthen the organization and connect people, and not to enter politics immediately.
He also clarified that no one is being forced to join the movement. All the members are becoming a part of this initiative willingly. He said that this is a democratic process, in which people’s participation is most important.
After this statement, discussions have intensified in political circles regarding the future strategy of Annamalai. His supporters are seeing this movement as a new political option, while at present the emphasis is only on the expansion of the organization.
Annamalai said that in the coming time, only when sufficient number of people join, it will be decided whether this movement should be converted into a political party or it should be continued as a social platform.
