Kakinada. Kakinada: The Water Resources Department will release water from the Godavari river into the canals of the eastern delta, western delta and middle delta from Saturday. East Godavari Collector K. Madhavi Latha will release the water on Saturday morning along with Chief Engineer of Godavari Delta System Satish Kumar and Superintendent Engineer of Irrigation of Dowleswaram Barrage Circle G Srinivas Rao and other officials.

TMC Feet of water is available in the river and it will be distributed to the delta areas from Saturday. This water will be “sufficient” for the kharif crop this year. Meanwhile, agriculture department officials are preparing for the kharif crop. Adequate seed stock is being kept at the Raithu Bharosa Kendras in the villages. However, in East Godavari district, farmers have already started preparing their nurseries.
District Agriculture Officer S Madhava Rao said that farmers have prepared nurseries in 48 hectares and seeds are available at the processing centres. Out of 82,000 hectares, paddy cultivation will be done in 71,000 hectares and pulses like maize etc. will be grown in the remaining areas. According to the district action plan for Kharif, the work of preparing nurseries should be completed by June 15 and transplanting should be done within a month. Officials claimed that if farmers implement the agricultural calendar, they can easily grow a second crop in Rabi.
Eluru District Agriculture Officer Habib Basha said that 10820 quintals of green manure seeds have been allotted, while 9000 quintals are available in RBKs. Around 22,000 quintals of paddy seeds are available in RBKs in the district.
He said 7000 metric tonnes of fertilizer is available in RBKs.
Konaseema District Agriculture Officer Voleti Bosubabu said paddy cultivation will be done in 1,68,000 acres. Around 23,000 quintals of seeds are available, while 7,500 quintals are available in processing centres.
“Farmers are also preparing seeds themselves. In Konaseema district, farmers are cultivating MTU 7029 Swarna, MTU 1318, 1024, Sampath Swarna, etc,” he said.
