Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh has adopted one of the country’s most comprehensive energy-efficiency partnerships spanning industries, MSMEs, DISCOMs, housing, urban and rural development, Anganwadis, tourism and public infrastructure.
This is positioning itself to be a “national benchmark in sustainable development and climate action.”
Addressing a programme organised by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd, S. Bala Subramanyam, EO secretary to government, said the state’s saturation-based implementation strategy has the potential to generate savings worth hundreds of crores annually while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
During the programme, Subramanyam unveiled a report on Mission LiFE, while EESL officials highlighted 75 actionable lifestyle changes aimed at promoting a greener and more sustainable future.
He said the AP government’s extensive collaboration with EESL could emerge as a landmark model for implementing energy-efficiency projects and Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), thereby contributing to India’s climate commitments.
Subramanyam called upon the youth to play a leading role in transforming Mission LiFE into a people’s movement and promoting sustainable lifestyles.
Highlighting the importance of energy efficiency, he noted that it contributes nearly 40 per cent of the global emission reductions required to meet climate goals. Investments in energy-efficient technologies, he said, reduce energy costs, improve productivity, strengthen energy security and lower carbon emissions.
He lauded initiatives implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and EESL under the power ministry, which have resulted in annual electricity savings of more than 321 billion units, monetary savings exceeding `2 lakh crore and a reduction of over 321 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions nationwide.
