Public Relations Webdesk | A total of 16 people were injured after an Amtrak train derailed in Southern California after colliding with a truck that was stuck on the tracks. The truck driver was taken to a trauma center, while another person was taken to a medical center with injuries, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
It does not appear that the passengers of the Coast to Coast Starlight train were seriously injured, officials said. Officials from the rail line reported that Train No. 14 from Los Angeles to Seattle derailed near Moorpark at approximately 11:15 a.m. after a vehicle blocked the path.
Amtrak said in a statement that the train remained upright after the derailment following the collision. Amtrak is acting as an alternate travel arrangement for customers. About 198 passengers and 13 employees have been evacuated safely in the accident. According to fire brigade and emergency medical personnel, the situation is currently under control. Following the incident, Amtrak promised to meet with local authorities to investigate the accident.
