Punjab: Panic spread in the area after a blast-like sound was heard outside the Gumtala police post on Thursday night. Though a heavy police force reached the spot, police officials denied it was an explosion. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said it was apparently an explosion in the radiator of a policeman’s car. “Due to earlier incidents, people thought it was a bomb blast, which is not the case,” he said. The incident was reported around 8 pm.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (West) Shiv Darshan Singh said in a video message released to the media that post in-charge ASI Harjinder Singh was working at the post when he heard a blast-like sound. During investigation, it was found that the radiator of ASI Tejinder Singh’s car was damaged, which caused the sound. The windshield of the car was also damaged. He denied it was an explosion. This is the ninth such incident in a police establishment in Punjab in the last one and a half months.
