An elderly man was brutally murdered by unknown people on Thursday morning in street number 3 of Gopal Nagar area located on Majitha Road.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay Khanna (78), who lived alone in the house. The incident came to light when his neighbors heard the sound of cutting something with a saw. When they shouted what happened, two men jumped over the wall and came out of the house and fled from the spot.
Residents in the neighborhood knocked repeatedly at the door but got no response and then informed the police.
Senior police officers led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr. Pragya Jain reached the spot and found the person dead. She was gagged and apparently beaten to death. The police have not yet been able to find out the reason for the murder.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (North) Varinder Singh Khosa said Vijay Khanna was alone in the house. He has four children – two sons and two daughters – all married. Two of them had settled in Canada while one lives in Chandigarh and one in Gurgaon.
“As per preliminary investigation, the incident occurred between 3 am and 5 am. The reason behind the incident is still unknown as there was no sign of theft or robbery,” he said. He said that the police have found important clues in the case. He said police teams are working on various clues to solve the case.
The residents of the area were shocked by this incident and they said that in the CCTV footage of the area, two people were seen climbing the wall and entering the house, who ran away when people raised an alarm.
