Punjab: The nomination papers of jailed heir Punjab De Pramukh Amritpal Singh were accepted at the office of Khadoor Sahib Returning Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar here today.
Overall, 43 candidates filed their nominations by May 14. During investigation, the papers of eight claimants were rejected because they failed to obtain authorization letters from the party of which they claimed to be candidates.
After the nomination papers are accepted, Amritpal will contest the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate. Amritpal’s father Tarsem Singh had filed his nomination papers on Monday. Amritpal has movable assets worth Rs 1,000 (money deposited in the bank) and the value of his immovable assets is also the same. He has no cash in his hand. His wife has Rs 18 lakh deposited in the bank.
Sources said there is no criminal case pending against Tarsem Singh while 12 cases are registered against his son Amritpal. Tarsem has seven kanals of agricultural land and a house. The total value of the property has been estimated at Rs 32 lakh. Tarsem has Rs 60,000 in cash, while his wife Amritpal’s mother Balwinder Kaur has Rs 40,000.
Harpal Singh Baler of SAD (Amritsar), who filed his nomination papers on Tuesday, said he would withdraw from the election in favor of Amritpal in a day or two.
