Ammonia gas leak from cold storage in Motihari, Bihar

Motihari (IANS) | Due to the sudden leakage of ammonia gas from a cold storage in Chatauni police station area of East Champaran district of Bihar, there was chaos in the entire area. A police official said on Friday that ammonia gas started leaking from the cold store at Chhota Bariyarpur late on Thursday night. People started coming out of their homes with their relatives and started running towards the court on foot. Some even fainted.

On getting the information, along with the zonal officer of the area, Chhatauni police station also reached. It is said that in the meantime two workers of the cold store showed courage and somehow managed to stop the leakage of ammonia gas.

According to the people, RB Cold Storage Pvt. Ltd. suddenly with a loud noise, the gas kit of the ammonia gas pipe exploded. Hearing the sound, the laborers working there ran away.

Along with the sound, gas started leaking from the pipe of the cold store. The gas started spreading to the surrounding areas, causing burning sensation in the eyes along with shortness of breath to the people.

Circle officer Pintu Kumar told that the situation became normal after two hours. Everyone has returned to their respective homes. The situation is completely under control.

Here, the villagers complain that there is no security measure in the cold storage. The entire matter is being investigated.
