Amit Shah gives a major hint ahead of Punjab elections: BJP and Akali Dal may form an alliance once again.

New Delhi. The political equations in Punjab seem to be changing rapidly before the 2027 assembly elections. A statement by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has intensified speculations about a re-alliance between BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in state politics. Amit Shah, during an event organized in Delhi on Thursday, October 22, claimed that the next government in Punjab will be formed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). His statement is being linked to a possible political agreement between BJP and Akali Dal. However, both the parties have not yet formally announced the alliance.

Amit Shah’s statement stirs Punjab politics

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday participated in the inauguration and foundation stone laying program of projects related to cleaning and water supply of Yamuna river in Dwarka, Delhi.

During this, while referring to the political circumstances of Punjab, he targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government.

Shah said that he was in Punjab only a day ago and the people there want change from the present government. He claimed that the people of Punjab have made up their mind to form the NDA government in 2027.

The Home Minister also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party government over the drug problem in Punjab.

After his statement, discussion started in political circles that BJP is preparing to fight the upcoming assembly elections with Shiromani Akali Dal.

Will BJP and Akali Dal come together again?

BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal have been political allies for a long time in Punjab. Both the parties fought many elections together and also ran a coalition government in the state.

But in September 2020, there was a rift in the relations between the two parties over the agricultural laws of the central government.

Shiromani Akali Dal had decided to separate from NDA in protest against the agricultural laws. After this, BJP and Akali Dal adopted different political paths.

Now after almost six years, the possibility of both the parties coming together again is being discussed.

Amit Shah’s statement has further increased these speculations.

discussion behind the scenes

According to reports quoting political sources, informal talks are going on between BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal regarding a possible alliance.

Possibilities of bringing together various factions of Akali Dal are also being considered.

There is also intense discussion about the role of Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal and other senior leaders of the party.

Former Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar has already been considered to be in favor of political coordination with Akali Dal.

However, official agreement on the terms of the alliance, candidates and seat sharing has not been declared yet.

The matter may get stuck on seat distribution

Seat sharing could be an important issue in front of the possible alliance of BJP and Akali Dal.

There are total 117 seats in Punjab Assembly. The distribution of seats is considered important considering the political expansion and electoral priorities of both the parties.

According to reports, BJP is said to be keen to contest elections on at least 60 assembly seats.

On the other hand, Akali Dal also wants adequate seats in the areas of its political influence.

Meanwhile, Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon has said that the party is ready to contest the elections alone on all 117 seats.

In such a situation, it is clear that political discussions are definitely going on regarding a possible alliance, but the final decision is yet to be taken.

Amit Shah’s attack on Aam Aadmi Party

During his address, Home Minister Amit Shah also targeted the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab.

He alleged that the drug trade has increased under the Aam Aadmi Party rule and the state government has not been able to control the problem effectively.

Shah said that the people of Punjab are dissatisfied with the functioning of the present government and want political change.

He also criticized Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and said that people’s problems cannot be solved only with the help of agitations and protests.

However, these are political allegations and election related claims of the Home Minister. The public’s decision in the upcoming elections will become clear only after voting.

Congress also targeted

Amit Shah also attacked Congress and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi during the program.

He criticized the questions being raised by the Congress on the Election Commission and the voting process.

Shah alleged that Congress questions constitutional institutions when it loses elections, but accepts the functioning of the same institutions when it wins.

He also commented on the political strategy of Congress and claimed that the party will remain out of power for a long time.

His statements are being seen as part of BJP’s political strategy before the upcoming elections.

Both parties fought separately in the 2022 elections

BJP and Shiromani Akali Dal contested the Punjab Assembly elections 2022 separately.

In that election, Aam Aadmi Party had achieved great success by winning 92 out of 117 seats.

Congress got 18 seats, Shiromani Akali Dal three and BJP two seats. Bahujan Samaj Party had won one seat, while an independent candidate had emerged victorious.

After the election results, Aam Aadmi Party government was formed in Punjab under the leadership of Bhagwant Mann.

Now all the major parties are busy preparing to strengthen their political position in the 2027 assembly elections.

If there is an alliance, the electoral equations can change.
