Al Jazeera’s Palestinian cameraman killed, its chief Gaza correspondent injured in Israeli attack

An Israeli strike killed a Palestinian cameraman for the television series Al Jazeera and its chief correspondent in Gaza on Friday while he was reporting from a school on the outskirts of the occupied territory, the chain said.

Cameraman Samir Abu Dakka and correspondent Wael Dahdouh were on their way to school in the southern city of Khan Younis when they were hit by an attack the same day. While they were there, an Israeli drone launched a second attack on the school, Chen said.

Dahdouh was seriously injured in the arm and shoulder, while Abu Dakka fell to the ground bleeding. Speaking from a hospital bed, Dahdouh told Al Jazeera he had to leave school because of the bleeding.

They asked him to look for Abu Dakka, but said he was too busy and promised to send another ambulance to find him, Dahdouh said.

“Staba is grunting, pleading for help,” Dahdouh said, swinging his right hand forcefully. Later that night, Al Jazeera reported that an ambulance attempted to reach the school to evacuate Abu Dakka, but had to turn back because roads were blocked.

Abu Daqqa fought for several hours until civil defense forces found him dead on Friday.
