Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar today observed World Environment Day and organized a tree plantation drive on its campus, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and public health promotion.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashutosh Biswas, Executive Director, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, said that a healthy environment is the key to a healthy society.
He highlighted the strong connection between the health of our environment and our own well-being. He noted that nearly one-fourth of the global disease burden can be prevented through a healthy environment, highlighting the direct and indirect impacts of environmental conditions on public health.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Biswas underscored that healthcare extends beyond hospitals and clinics and encompasses efforts to ensure a clean, safe, and sustainable environment. He emphasized that environmental conservation is an integral component of disease prevention and overall well-being. He also encouraged all stakeholders to adopt eco-friendly practices and actively contribute to environmental protection.
The plantation drive was led by Dr. Ashutosh Biswas and witnessed the participation of Medical Superintendent Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, DDA Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar, Senior Medical Officer and Head of AYUSH Dr. Prasanta Kumar Sahoo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Raj Kishore Dash, along with faculty members, staff, and students.
The dignitaries highlighted the importance of collective action in preserving natural resources and fostering a sustainable future for coming generations. The programme concluded with a pledge by participants to promote environmental awareness, support green initiatives, and work collectively towards creating a healthier and more sustainable society.
