Chennai (IANS) | AIADMK’s newly elected general secretary K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Thursday said his party’s alliance with the BJP in Tamil Nadu is intact and the two will contest the next Lok Sabha polls together. The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly and former Chief Minister said that the AIADMK had maintained its ties with the BJP even in the recent Erode East Assembly bypolls.
Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has been coming out strongly against the AIADMK and there were reports that he had offered to resign if the alliance with the AIADMK continued.
However, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had categorically stated that his BJP would continue its ties with the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu.
According to sources, the BJP national leadership wants the alliance with AIADMK to continue as it clearly knows that without the support of prominent Dravidian leaders, the party cannot make inroads in the state. The national leadership of the BJP wants some seats from Tamil Nadu to increase its numbers in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the party’s strategists want to take advantage of the popularity of the AIADMK.
