The 2nd Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) meeting under India’s G-20 chairmanship began in Gandhinagar today. Union Minister of State for AYUSH and Women and Child Development Dr. Munjpara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai in his keynote address emphasized the commitment of India’s G-20 Chairmanship to find immediate and immediate solutions to global warming, climate change and energy security. The Minister highlighted the need for research and development of innovative technologies to promote clean energy and make it cost-effective and reliable.
The meeting was attended by G-20 member countries, specially invited countries and International Energy Agency (IEA), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNISCAP), European Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (more than 100 delegates from international organizations including OPEC) and International Solar Alliance (ISA) have attended the meeting to discuss priority areas.
During the inaugural event, the Union Minister spoke about the importance of ‘Jeevan Abhiyan’ or ‘Lifestyle Campaign for Environment’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged individuals and communities to lead and build it into an international mass movement for careful and deliberate use of resources, conservation and protection of the environment.
Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power, Government of India, emphasized the importance of recognizing joint action among G20 members to promote equitable, shared and inclusive growth. He urged the member countries to cooperate and create a spirit of trusteeship to achieve a clean energy transition. He also highlighted the major schemes envisaged by the Government of India, which include Green Hydrogen Mission, Energy Transition, Energy Storage Projects, Renewable Energy Extraction, Green Credit Programme, PM-PRANAM, Gobardhan Yojana, Indian Natural Farming Bio-input Resource Centre, Mishti Are. -This includes Misty, Amrit Dharohar, Coastal Shipping and Vehicle Replacement.
The meeting focused on six priority areas, including energy transition bridging the technology gap, low cost financing for energy transition, energy security and diverse supply chains, energy efficiency, industrial low carbon transition and responsible consumption, for the future. Fuel and universal included. Access to clean energy and a fair, equitable and inclusive energy transition path. A seminar on Global Green Hydrogen Ecosystem – Enabling Net Zero Pathway was organized as a side event of the meeting. As part of the second ETWG meeting, the delegates also visited GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
Four meetings of the ETWG, various co-events and a ministerial meeting have been held under the chairmanship of India to advance global cooperation in the clean energy transition and place it at the center of the sustainable economic development agenda.
