Afzalganj: Police said the attackers are taking refuge in southern states

Hyderabad: A fortnight has passed and police from four states are still on the lookout for those involved in the Afzalganj firing and Bidar robbery cases. The robbers involved in the firing incident have been identified as Amit and Manish, believed to have been involved in other crimes across the country. The Uttar Pradesh police had already announced a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh on the two robbers who had carried out several robberies in the state in the last two years. Both the robbers were absconding. The duo, who reached Hyderabad on a two-wheeler on January 10 after firing on bank employees in Bidar, looted Rs 93 lakh.

They shot at the manager of a private travels on January 16. They then reached Secunderabad, where they bought bags and new clothes and went to Trimulgherry and escaped by various modes of transport. Hyderabad police examined CCTV footage and technical evidence and concluded that the attackers are currently taking refuge in southern states. They tried to mislead the police and planned to flee to Uttar Pradesh and other northern parts of India. The two were found to have taken a ‘U’ turn from Trimulgherry and returned to Miyapur and Kukatpalli. From there, they reached Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh and took refuge for a few days before moving to Chennai via Chittoor district. Investigating officials suspect that the attackers were following the latest news coverage on the Bidar and Afzalganj cases and were regularly changing their hideouts.
