Uttarakhand: The district administration has come on high alert after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning of rain in the district in the coming few hours. In view of the weather conditions, District Magistrate Prashant Arya has instructed the concerned officers and teams to remain alert. Special emphasis has been laid on ensuring the safety of the trekkers present on the trekking route and the people staying in the base camps of different agencies. District Magistrate Prashant Arya has asked the officials to constantly monitor the condition of the people currently present on the trekking route. Besides, all necessary security arrangements should also be made for the trekkers staying in the base camp through various agencies. In case of worsening weather, instructions have been given to take necessary steps before any kind of problem occurs.
In view of the rain warning from IMD, the administration has asked to maintain better coordination between the concerned teams. The District Magistrate has directed that information related to weather and local conditions should be shared continuously, so that immediate action can be taken if needed. The administration has clarified that wherever necessary, rescue operations should be conducted to take the trekkers to safe places. Conditions can change rapidly in hilly and trekking areas during inclement weather. In such a situation, security teams have been asked to be prepared in advance and respond immediately in case of any emergency.
Given the possibility of rain, the administration’s concern is not limited to trekkers only. People living in high-risk and potentially dangerous areas have also been advised to take special precautions. Tourists and pilgrims have also been appealed to take the weather conditions seriously and follow the guidelines issued by the administration.
Due to heavy rains, the risk of landslides may increase in hilly areas. Apart from this, there is a possibility of water level of rivers and other water sources increasing rapidly. In such circumstances, there is a risk of the road being affected or completely closed. In view of these possible dangers, the administration has asked people to avoid unnecessary travel. During the rains, there is a need to take extra precautions in landslide-prone areas, river banks and on such roads, where movement may be affected due to bad weather.

In such a situation, in case of road closure at any place, people have been advised to avoid moving ahead in haste or taking risks. Similarly, in view of the possibility of rising water level in rivers, the need has been advised to avoid going near river banks and water streams. A sudden rise in water level during heavy rains can pose a threat to people. The administration has asked local residents as well as people coming from outside to remain alert.
The concerned teams have been instructed to remain in constant touch. If the weather on any trekking route becomes very bad or poses a threat to the people present there, then a rescue operation will be conducted to rescue them in time.
