Adilabad: Farmers on Sunday warned that they would lay siege to the Telangana Assembly if the Rythu Bharosa benefit was not released immediately. They staged a protest by kneeling on bags containing wheat harvested during the Vanakalam (Kharif) season at Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal.
The agitating farmers alleged that the Congress government was duping the agrarian community by delaying the release of the benefit. Accusing the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of misleading farmers by making statements about releasing the benefit only during elections, they said the government had evaded providing the benefit three times so far.
The disgruntled farmers said they were now forced to rely on private moneylenders who fleece the agrarian community by charging exorbitant interest rates. They recalled that beneficiaries were leading a comfortable life during the regime of the BRS government and stated that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao changed the face of the agriculture sector by introducing innovative schemes.
Former Sarpanch Gadge Meenakshi, former MPTC member Subhash and several farmers participated in the protest.
