New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested four people for sending activated SIM cards for gaming and social media apps to Vietnam. The accused used to receive payments for this crime on banned cryptocurrency platforms. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Ranganani said that the accused used to get SIM cards issued to people by paying very small amounts of money. Many of these were daily wage labourers. After this the card was sold to people in Vietnam at a high price. These SIM cards were used for gaming and social media apps. The official said that India’s SIM card was sold in Vietnam at a high price. These SIM cards were used for gaming and social media apps. Police said the accused used to receive smuggled funds on Chinese cryptocurrency applications. This Chinese cryptocurrency application was recently banned in India. The police officer said that 500 SIM cards have been seized from the accused. The investigation was initiated following a complaint by the manager (operations) of a courier company at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) cargo terminal. The complainant had told the police that random checking of the shipment revealed that there was a huge quantity of SIM cards covered in carbon paper inside a diary. These SIM cards were kept with a hollow space cut out of the pages for shipping to Vietnam. DCP said that a total of 500 SIM cards of three different service providers were found in that shipment. Random checking of 60 SIM cards out of 500 was done. Police got their details from the respective service providers. All the SIM cards were issued in the names of people living around Agra. Delhi Police, in its investigation, found that all the SIM cards were issued from POS (Point of Sale) centres. Anil Kumar (20) of Rajasthan and Mukul Kumar (22), Hemant (26) and Kanhaiya Gupta (29), residents of Agra, have been arrested in this case. The officer said that during the investigation, the police tracked two people in Loha Mandi area of Agra. SIM cards were issued in the names of both of them. He told that a person named Mukul Kumar had given him Rs 200 to issue the card in his name.
