Pudukkottai: Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association has demanded action against a YouTuber for allegedly spreading false and defamatory information against Anganwadi workers on social media. The association alleges that a YouTuber named Kaushalya is trying to tarnish the image of Anganwadi workers and assistants through social media platforms, due to which the women employees are facing mental problems.
In this regard, on Monday, the association officials submitted a complaint letter to the Pudukkottai District Collector and Superintendent of Police. Among those who submitted the memorandum were Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association District President M. Vijayalakshmi, District Secretary K. Lata, Treasurer S. Savariammal and CITU district secretary S. Sridhar was involved.
The association alleged in its complaint that a YouTuber named Kaushalya is sharing such material on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram about Anganwadi workers and helpers, which is allegedly misleading and derogatory. The organization says that such posts and videos are damaging the social reputation of thousands of women employees.
Association officials said that Anganwadi workers and assistants have been providing their services with full responsibility and hard work for a long time, even in low salaries. They play a role in important tasks like child nutrition, health care, assistance to pregnant women and making government schemes accessible to the people.
He said that comments questioning the personal character and morality of such women employees are extremely hurtful. Employees are facing mental stress and social problems due to allegations being made on social media without any proof.
The association demanded the administration to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action against the person concerned. The organization says that social media should not be used to harm the reputation of an individual or group. If there is a complaint regarding any issue then it should be raised through proper channel.
The memorandum also said that Anganwadi workers play an important role in taking various welfare schemes of the government to the grassroots level. In such a situation, it is necessary to stop the activities which harm their work and respect.
Association leaders said that Anganwadi workers and assistants are continuously working for the development of children and women in rural and urban areas. They are an important link in providing government facilities to the weaker sections of the society. Spreading false information against them not only affects the morale of the employees but can also have a negative impact on government services.
He urged the administration to investigate the alleged objectionable material being circulated on social media and if the allegations are found to be true then strict action should be taken against the person concerned.
At the same time, no response has come from YouTuber Kaushalya in this matter yet. The status of further action will be clear only after the administration starts investigation on the complaint.
Anganwadi workers say that they will raise their voice at every level to protect their rights and dignity. The organization has warned that if appropriate action is not taken in this matter then they may also consider further agitation.
At present, all eyes are on the action to be taken in this matter after the complaint reached the Pudukkottai district administration and police department.
