Accused of throwing ‘polluted water’ on the deity during the procession, FIR against 5

Mysore: A police complaint was lodged on Wednesday against five people for throwing polluted water on the deity during a procession in Nanjangud town in Mysore district.The incident, which took place on Tuesday night, sparked controversy and created tension in the area. Jagadish, Chief Executive Officer of the historic Nanjundeshwar Temple, has filed a complaint in this regard against Balaraju, Narayan, Nagabhushan, Natesh and Abhi at the Nanjangud Town police station.

The five are accused of disrupting the religious practice by throwing bottled water at the deity during the procession. The complaint states, “We have explained that no person is disrespected during the procession. “Despite this, some people threw water on the deity during the procession, hurting the religious sentiments of the devotees.”The temple management organized a religious procession on Tuesday night on the occasion of ‘Andhakasur Sanhar’. Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (DSS) objected to the procession, claiming that they believed Andhakasura was their king.

The temple management says the ritual has been observed for hundreds of years, which involves erasing the image of Andhakasura drawn near the Raksha Mandapam near the temple. People carrying the idols of Nanjundeshwar and Parvati erase the paintings on their feet. This ritual is celebrated throughout the region, especially in villages.Sources said that the accused had thrown polluted water on God, which created a tense situation. Police has started the investigation of the matter.
