Accused arrested with illegal Mahua liquor in Gerwani

Raigarh. The Punjipathra police today raided Gerwani Lohrapara and arrested a youth who was preparing to sell Mahua liquor illegally. The police had received secret information that a youth was preparing raw Mahua liquor for sale by keeping it in the courtyard of his house, on which immediate action was taken.

A team of Head Constable Satish Singh, Constable Vikram Kujur and Narendra Pankra reached the spot and arrested the accused Kaushal Jharia (27) son of late Tansen Jharia, resident of village Gerwani Lohrapara. 10 liters of Mahua liquor was recovered from his possession, whose estimated value is 1,000. During interrogation, the accused admitted to keeping the liquor with the intention of selling it.

A case has been registered against the accused in Punjipathra police station under Section 34 (2), 59 (a) of the Excise Act and legal action has been taken. The police has given a message of continuing strict action against illegal liquor and has said to keep a constant watch on such activities in the area.
