Abohar: Water and electricity supply disrupted due to rain

Punjab: Sudden rain lashed Abohar and adjoining areas on Saturday morning as per the weather department forecast, further dropping the temperature, making people shiver and disrupting daily life. Light rain, which started around 11 am, added to the chill as it continued till noon. Markets remained deserted and buses also remained empty due to the bad weather as people stayed indoors. Vendors, especially those running temporary markets near garbage dumps, had a tough time moving on South Circular Road amid heavy rains.
The rain was beneficial for wheat crops but caused a lot of inconvenience to people. The Punjab Water Supply Board had announced a rotational water supply schedule for drinking water supply from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm in several colonies including Azimgarh and Naya Abadi under PPCL Sub Division-2. However, thousands of consumers were left without potable water as power was cut off at 2:30 pm. Dr Gagandeep Singh of Abohar Civil Hospital said that the temperature has dropped significantly due to rain and cold wave, with the day temperature hovering between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. He urged residents, especially children and the elderly, to be extra cautious and not step out unnecessarily due to cold and fog as it may aggravate respiratory problems.
