Mumbai: Steps are being taken towards establishing a new organisation in place of the existing organisation in the Malayalam film industry. A new organisation called “Leading Film Producers” has been set up. Directors Anjali Menon, Liju Jose Plasari, Aashiq Abu, Rajeev Ravi, actress Rima Kallingal and filmmaker Vineesh Chandra have jointly issued a statement in this regard. The group was given a script along with information about the organisation. The organisation aims to empower workers and is committed to creating a new film culture. Employees’ rights are protected. The letter also states that they are committed to the values of equality, cooperation and social justice.
The film industry is lagging behind other industries. The statement also said that now the time has come to adapt the Malayalam film industry to modern institutions, legal framework and collective responsibility. The new organisation will be headed by Aashiq Abu Atakam, who recently resigned from FEFCA. It is also noteworthy that the head of the new organisation is the person who had raised voice against the serious crimes as per the Homa Commission report.
