BALASORE: A man and his 18-year-old pregnant sister-in-law died after jumping in front of a train near Jaleswar railway station in Balasore district on Monday night.
The deceased have been identified as Bijay Sahu (35) and his brother’s wife, Bandita Sahu, both residents of Rajpur village in the Jaleswar police station limits. Bandita was reportedly six months pregnant.
Locals claimed that Bijay and Bandita were in a relationship, which reportedly led to frequent fights within their families.
Around 8 p.m. on Monday night, the two allegedly met at Jaleswar railway station and jumped in front of the Kharagpur-Jajpur Express.
After the train’s loco pilot alerted railway officials, police from the Jaleswar outpost arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.
Police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the bodies to Jaleswar hospital for postmortem. On Tuesday, the bodies were handed over to the family after an autopsy. Police said further investigation is underway.
