A boat caught fire in Bepore port, two people got seriously burnt

Kozhikode: Two people were severely burnt when a boat caught fire at Beypore port. The fire spread from the boat and two fishermen named Thajul Akbar and Rafiq, natives of Lakshadweep, were injured. Both have been admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where they have burn marks at several places on their bodies. They have suffered burns up to 70 percent. According to reports, their condition is critical. The boat has been completely burnt.

Around midnight yesterday, a fire broke out in the ‘Ahal Fisheries’ boat anchored at Beypore port. The fire spread from the engine, which had gone for fishing in the morning. Gas cylinders in the boat exploded with a loud noise. The fire spread in the boat loaded with fuel.

A tense situation arose when the burning part came to the shore. When the fishermen came to know about this, they moved the nearby boats to safer places and a major accident was averted. Firefighters from Meenchanda, Beach, Narikuni and Mukkam reached the spot.

The boat had reached Beypore two days before the accident. It is not clear how the accident happened. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident
