Hyderabad: Demand to cancel NEET UG and conduct the exam again intensifies

Hyderabad: The postponement of the NEET PG-2024 exam, the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam and the outcome of the probe into the allegations of NEET paper leak in Bihar and other Indian states have intensified the demand for cancellation and re-conduct of the NEET exam. Till a few days ago, the demand for cancellation of the NEET exam was subdued and limited to medical aspirants. However, in the last three-four days, with the cancellation/postponement of several entrance exams, intellectuals, senior medical fraternity and experts in medical education have now demanded a fresh NEET entrance exam. K Sujatha Rao, former Union Health Secretary, Ministry of Health, Medical and Family Welfare (MOHFW), said that the most appropriate solution to the ongoing NEET scam is to cancel the exam and conduct it again.

“Re-examination for all. Now the government is considering it for only 1560 students. First they were given grace marks and now re-examination. If the re-examination will be tougher or easier than the main exam, it will start another round of controversy. It is better to re-examine everyone,” said senior IAS officer X on social media. Pointing out that cancelling and conducting NEET would be a fair solution, Dr Sujatha Rao said that ‘Courts should not always look for maintaining the status quo as it is not a solution as cheaters escape and real meritorious students are left to suffer,’ said Dr Sujatha Rao. National Council Coordinator IMA-JDN (Junior Doctors Network), Dr Dhruv Chauhan has been highlighting the issue of cancelling NEET UG exams and the need to conduct the exams as soon as possible. He said on X, “Not one but several states are involved in this NEET UG paper leak and people should not think that the leak has happened in only one state. A large number of fake doctors will come in the country in the name of doctors which will endanger the healthcare system and collapse the education system in the country.”
