Gurugram police recovered Rs 4 lakh from theft accused
Haryana: Gurugram Police has arrested a head constable for extorting Rs 4 lakh from a Delhi man arrested in a theft case.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the department has suspended the head constable posted at Civil Lines police station and the SHO of the police station. In this regard, an FIR has been registered against the constable in Civil Lines police station.
According to the police, the arrested head constable has been identified as Kulwinder. He said a Delhi resident lodged a complaint with DCP (West) Karan Goyal on May 3, accusing the head constable of extorting Rs 4 lakh from him.
The Delhi resident said in his complaint that he deals in buying and selling of scrap goods in Delhi. On April 24, Head Constable Kulwinder posted at Civil Lines police station had arrested him in a theft case. He took him to the police station and later produced him in the court.
The head constable demanded money in return for not taking his remand and implicating him in some other case. On April 26, his nephew had given Rs 4 lakh to the head constable.
Acting on the complaint, an investigation was conducted by ACP City Mukesh Kumar. During investigation the allegations made by the complainant were found to be true.
Thus, an FIR was registered under IPC section 384 (extortion) and Prevention of Corruption Act at the Civil Lines police station and the accused head constable was arrested.
”Corruption will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We have not only arrested the accused head constable, but have also suspended the SHO of Civil Lines police station along with the head constable. This action of Gurugram Police against corruption will continue,” said ACP Crime Varun Dahiya.
